The Green Hat was a popular property adapted by the playwright from his bestselling novel. It was already a hit in New York with Katherine Cornell in the role and would later be filmed twice in Hollywood with Greta Garbo and Constance Bennett. Although the London production was less successful and dismissed by reviewers, Tallulah's fans loved it and were especially enamored with the beautiful lingerie that she sported in several scenes.
