Faithless

Picture

MGM
Released: November 18, 1932

Director: Harry Beaumont

Partial Cast: Robert Montgomery, Hugh Herbert, Maurice Murphy

Tallulah's Role: Carol Morgan

Paramount loaned Tallulah to MGM for Faithless, about a spoiled heiress who loses her money and becomes a better person for it. The studio softened her appearance and added bangs to give her a fabulous new look (one critic said she resembled Garbo from certain angles), but the role was another one ill-suited to the Bankhead personality.

Times were changing in the film industry. Will Hays and the Production Code were coming into force and the bombshells and foreign seductresses were losing favor with audiences. The studios were looking for more wholesome images. Tallulah correctly decided that it was time to return to New York and Broadway.
